This bowl was thrown on the pottery wheel, then decorated with a black slip. When it was dry enough to handle, the design was carved by hand using the sgraffito technique revealing the contrasting clay underneath. It was then fired in the kiln at 2170°F.
The clay is a warm ivory colored ceramic stoneware, and is glazed with a glossy clear coat inside and out.
